Caring for your tree

Wild Olive

The Wild Olive takes to pruning easily, and is a favourite for beginner bonsai artists. It grows at about 800mm a year, reaching heights of up to14m (although between 5m and 10m is the norm). If well-watered in its first year, the growth rate increases dramatically.

Note that the root system can be aggressive, so don’t plant your tree close to walls, patios or swimming pools. The Wild Olive can survive severe drought and is resistant to frost and wind. It is comfortable in most soil types, especially alkaline. When planting, add compost and apply mulch to protect the soil surface.
